Friendship Quilters of San Diego is proud to present the following lectures and workshops by some of the finest quilt artists in the country.

Lecture: “A Pattern is Just a Suggestion”

Patterns are a fantastic option with instructions and mathematics provided. However,
specific needs or creative ideas lead us to use patterns as a tool to develop our own
ideas.

Colleen walks from minor changes to large leaps in this Zoom lecture.

Colleen is a Certified Quilt Judge with
NACQJ. She travels to judge quilt shows and Zooms with guilds across the United
States. She enjoys making projects in many styles. Her work has been juried into
shows in Houston, Paducah, Road to California, and QuiltCon.

October 2026

Gwen Weedon

Lecture: “Sonshine Quilting: Lecture and Trunk Show”

Gwen has been Quilting for over 25 years on the Central Coast of California. Gwen started teaching Quilting workshops 20 yrs ago starting in San Luis Obispo Adult ED quilting classes, local quilt shops and many California Quilt Guilds.

November 2026

Lecture: “Member Quilt Show – Quilted Holiday Items”

Everyone attending is invited to bring a holiday quilt to show: Any holiday. Any size. Show off your quilt and tell a brief story of why you made it and how you use it.

December 2026

Holiday Party

Sport your ugly sweater, or not and join us for a fun social evening
with your friends for dinner, activities, games and hilarious fun. You won’t want to miss this!

January 2027

Lecture: “Embellishment Techniques and Trunk Show”

Lecture with a trunk show explains different embellishment techniques. Nine Surface Embellishments, each shown with a quilt that clarifies these techniques. Fabric College, Stenciling, Machine Appliqué and Swarovski Crystals, Crayons, Inks and Fabric Markers, Applique Silk Flowers, Photo Printing, Discharge Dyeing, Machine Embroidery, Free Motion.

February 2027

Mary Tabar

Lecture: “The Positive and Negative of Design”

This combination of a short PowerPoint presentation, with a trunk show details what a Notan design represents. Quilters will gain the confidence to try a new technique of machine appliqué and learn new design ideas.

Workshop: “Holiday Designs”

Students can choose from which holiday design they will make their quilt.

March 2027

Philanthropy

Friendship Quilters Guild includes Philanthropy as part of its endeavor to make and donate fabric and quilted items to charitable, non-profit organizations in the San Diego area.

Once a year we have a Philanthropy Night as one of the monthly meetings. This meeting is devoted to creating kits to be sewn, quilted, and donated to the charities we support. Members come to cut fabric and make quilt kits, sew batting, and tie quilts from donated fabric to help fulfil the Philanthropy role of Friendship Quilters.

April 2027

Lecture: “Innovative Quilt Making – Blending Modern and Traditional Techniques”

Jennifer is a quilt pattern designer and instructor. In the spring of 2022, she launched Snapdragon Quilting with a clear mission: to ignite creativity and build confidence in quilters of all skill levels through thoughtfully designed patterns and engaging workshops.

Workshop:Reverse Appliqué with the Mini Moons Quilt Pattern

Discover how easy it is to create this stunning miniature quilt! Jen will guide you through a unique technique using a bit of freezer paper and Elmer’s glue to achieve perfectly smooth, small curves. And the best part – the seam is hiding! There’s no topstitching or hand stitching involved. Whether you highlight a fun 5” precut pack in the circles or use solid fabrics for a modern look, this class offers endless creative possibilities. As a bonus, we’ll explore how contrast and block orientation can transform your quilt. Join us and be amazed at what you can create!

Lecture: “Demos and Desserts”
