Philanthropy

Friendship Quilters Guild includes Philanthropy as part of its endeavor to make and donate fabric and quilted items to charitable, non-profit organizations in the San Diego area.

Once a year we have a Philanthropy Night as one of the monthly meetings. This meeting is devoted to creating kits to be sewn, quilted, and donated to the charities we support. Members come to cut fabric and make quilt kits, sew batting, and tie quilts from donated fabric to help fulfil the Philanthropy role of Friendship Quilters.

April 2026

Lecture: “The Ins and Outs of Modern Quilting”

What, exactly, constitutes Modern Quilting? Is it working with solid colors? Yes, but there’s more to it than that. Is it repeating patterns? Yes, but that is also traditional. Is it big fast pieces? Yes, but little tiny ones too. Julie will give us the ins and outs, and thoroughly entertain us, while teaching us a thing or two. She has recently added improv quilting to her modern repertoire, so I bet we’ll hear a bit about that too.

Julie will come to us via Zoom from Georgia where she and her active family are currently stationed with the US Army. She is an athletic trainer by day and a quilter by night.

Where: Incarnation Lutheran Church

Workshop: “Making Faces”

Ann will lead us through the design process for creating a fanciful portrait that brings out some aspect of the subject’s personality, life or preferences. Make it a self portrait or feature someone you love, either way, it is a joy filled process.
