Friendship Quilters of San Diego is proud to present the following lectures and workshops by some of the finest quilt artists in the country.
Lectures: Our programs are open to members and non-members alike. Programs are at our monthly guild meeting at the Incarnation Lutheran Church, 16889 Espola Rd, Poway, CA 92064 at 6:30pm the second Monday of the month.
Workshops: Unless otherwise indicated, our in-person workshops are at, Paradise Sewing, 13242 Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064.

September 2024
Lecture: “Scrappy Applique”
Scrappy Appliqué is a raw edge fusible appliqué technique developed by Shannon Brinkley, that is quick, simple to pick up, yet allows for a lot of creative possibilities. Kristi is a certified teacher in the Scrappy Applique technique. Kristi will tell us about the technique and show us the process and many of the results in her lecture and trunk show.

Loretta will tell the story of her quilting journey and present a trunk show.

California Heritage Quilt Project
Arlene Stevens, President
Lecture: “California Heritage Quilt Project”
Arlene will outline the history of the project and tell about what they are doing now; highlighting their use of the Quilt Index to document the quilts made in or brought to California.

Workshop: “Training Volunteers to Photograph and Register California Quilts into the Quilt Index”
The workshop will train volunteers to enter quilt photos, stories and data into the Quilt Index database.

Open House: Guild members and the public will be invited to bring their quilts to be documented.
Cost: Suggested donation of $10 per quilt.

Lecture: “All About Fabric: An Insider’s Look at the Fabric Industry”
Jean will delve into the fabric industry, including insights on batiks, flat printed, and digital fabrics, drawing from her experience with Hoffman Fabrics.

Lecture: “Paper Piecing the Judy Way”
Catherine is a certified Judy Niemeyer instructor. She will introduce Judy’s methods and present a trunk show.

Catherine offers world class instruction and custom built quilt kits. She is committed to providing you with the tools you need to enjoy a successful quilting experience. Pocket Compass is 40″ x 40″.

Philanthropy
Friendship Quilters Guild includes Philanthropy as part of its endeavor to make and donate fabric and quilted items to charitable, non-profit organizations in the San Diego area.
Once a year we have a Philanthropy Night as one of the monthly meetings. This meeting is devoted to creating kits to be sewn, quilted, and donated to the charities we support. Members come to cut fabric and make quilt kits, sew batting, and tie quilts from donated fabric to help fulfil the Philanthropy role of Friendship Quilters.

Kim will share techniques for ice dyeing and her years of experience of using them in projects.

May 2025
Lecture: “Got Colour!”
Boost your colour confidence and learn to use every colour of the rainbow in your quilts. Linda will discuss the basics of colour theory, demonstrate colour concepts and how to create and combine dynamic colour palettes, as well as share her tips and tricks on how to find colour inspiration in everyday objects to inspire, infuse and ignite the colour in your next quilting project.

Workshop: “ColourBugs and Curves!”
Two techniques in one workshop! In part one, Linda will guide students through her liberating and fancy free slash ‘n sew improv technique while making cute colourbug blocks – no ¼” seams to follow, no rules and stress free piecing. Next in part two, she’ll guide students through sewing perfect curves with her handy tips and tricks – after a few practice blocks, students are guaranteed to conquer their fear of sewing curves with no tears. Both techniques come together in one workshop while working on this cute ladybug quilt!
